If a magnet is suspended at an angle of 30º to the magnetic meridian, the dip needle makes an angle of 45º with the horizontal. The real dip is________
Given
The angle of dip is δ = 45º
The magnet is suspended Θ =30º
Find out
We have to determine the real dip
Solution
We know that
tanδ ‘ = tan δ / cosΘ
= tan 45/ cos 30
On substituting the values of tan and cos we get
tanδ ‘ = 1 / √3/2
= 2/√3
Real dip = tan-1 ( 2/√3)
Answer
If a magnet is suspended at an angle of 30º to the magnetic meridian, the dip needle makes an angle of 45º with the horizontal. The real dip is tan-1 ( 2/√3)
